With just 50 days remaining before we launch our campaign to win the ICC Cricet cup 2011The ICC must realise how much preparation a team requires before participation in an event like the World Cup. How can Pakistan prepare its boys without knowing the likely composition of the squad and the clouds of corruption hovering over the players’ heads. All this indicates that the ICC is planning to disgrace the former world champions in the eyes of the cricket world. Every one of us in the India dressing room wants to lift that cup, not only for ourselves, but also for the billions of fans we have around the globe. It is not a surprise to me as it doesn't get any bigger than the World Cup.
It is the ultimate dream of every cricketer to represent his country in this competition and win the trophy at least once in his career. It will require a lot of hard work, self belief and also a positive approach which Team India is capable of displaying at the highest level," Dhoni said during a promotional ICC event here to mark the 50-day countdown celebrations of the mega-event starting next month.
With little more than a month to go for the tournament, Dhoni said he can feel the buzz around him.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith, whose side opens its campaign against two-time champions , said: "I can't believe that the World Cup is only 50 days away! The spectacular way that 50 days to the World Cup was marked is a pointer to the magnitude of the event."
"As a unit, we are looking to make sure we head into the showpiece, with the best preparation possible. The five-match ODI series against India starting on January 12 will be our last chance to make sure we are fully prepared and we hope to bring home the silverware," Smith said.
ICC chief Lorgat said he was delighted to see the interest and excitement amongst the players and followers of the game for the tournament Sri Lankan shoppers walk past the 2011 Cricket World Cup trophy on display at the Odel shopping mall inColombo . The cup is on tour in Colombo , as part of preparation plans for the 2011 limited overs 43-day tournament which begins on February 23, 2011 across 13 venues in India , Sri Lanka and Bangladesh . The 14-nation showpiece held every four years, will end on April 2 at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium,The ICC should mend its ways, adopt the principle of justice and fairplay and clear our boys from the agony and torture that they are going through. The training camp to prepare our team for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand is in progress. I was surprised by the views expressed by our star spinner of the past, Abdul Qadir, that the series will not help our team in preparation for the World Cup because New Zealand is a weak outfit. Let me point out that the Kiwis have lost to India who are one of the leading teams of the world these days. On their own pitches and the home atmosphere I am sure they will give a tough time to our team. That will be a wonderful practice and preparation for our team. It will, however, depend on the team management how it helps the boys to get off the kinds of tensions and pressures surrounding them.
